Typing in a foreign language can be a challenge if it requires non-Latin characters. When it comes to writing in Bangla, Avro Keyboard can provide you with everything you need. It offers full support for Unicode and ANSI characters, it comes with its own built-in Bangla spell checker and it places several Bangla keyboard layouts at your disposal. Furthermore, the application is fully customizable. It allows you to define your own keyboard layout, add your own words to its dictionary, choose different skins and much more.

Avro Keyboard is offered completely free of charge and it can be installed in under a minute. Besides presenting the usual options, like selecting a destination folder or creating shortcuts, the setup wizard allows you to choose between different input language settings. Additionally, you can install a Bangla spell checker for MS Word. The application works on all popular Windows platforms and it doesn't have any special requirements.

When launched, Avro Keyboard will display a series of options on the upper edge of the screen, which can be used to control and adjust any aspect of the application. You can switch from your default language to Bangla instantly, with a single click. Once you change the language, you can type anywhere, with Bangla characters, even in Notepad. As you type your text in Bangla, a floating preview window will display your words in your default language.

The application supports phonetic typing. This means that you can input English text and the application will produce Bangla matching characters, through a phonetic conversion algorithm. In other words, you can type words as they sound, with English letters and Avro Keyboard will insert the correct characters automatically. For example, the application will produce specific characters when you type certain groups of letters, like "Rh" or "Ng", which may be case sensitive. You can view a list of phonetic translations, for all characters, on a small window.

Avro Keyboard comes with various predefined keyboard layouts, but it allows you to create your own layouts as well. You can select individual keys, on a virtual keyboard and assign Bangla characters or their phonetic translations. The application supports touch typing as well. You can bring up a virtual keyboard, with Bangla characters and use it to type in any program.

Pros

You can switch between your default language and Bangla at a moment's notice. The application provides support for phonetic typing and it offers an easy to understand translation scheme. The best part is that it allows you to create your own keyboard layouts.

Cons

There are no obvious drawbacks to address. With Avro Keyboard, typing in Bangla can be made much easier and more comfortable than before.
